I just re-read Matthew 5-7, Jesus’s first recorded sermon, commonly called “The Sermon on the Mount.” There is so much in there! It is as if Jesus packed a year’s worth of sermons into three chapters. Imagine the millions of sermons based on these well-known scriptures. He touches on so many topics: worship, fasting, giving, lust, forgiveness, worry, prayer, parenting, priorities, divorce, and more.
And the conclusion is amazing. Jesus says in effect, ‘Look. I’m telling you how to build a good life. This is the blueprint. Follow my words and you will have a great life’:
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded on that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded on that house, and it collapsed. And great was its collapse!” Matthew 7:24-26.
Which of these people will you be? The first group hears Jesus’s words and acts on them. The second hears His words and doesn’t act on them.
Look around you. Do you know anyone who has heard the words of Jesus but failed to act on them? Any young people who grew up in church or a Christian school or family, but they have chosen NOT to obey the words of Jesus? Have you seen any lives collapse, like houses built on sand?
This is serious. This is real. You are young, you are building your life and your future. Will you build it on the words of Christ or not? If not, RUINS ARE IN YOUR FUTURE.
Build your life on the words of Christ. Read them. Memorize them—and most importantly, act on them.

The cliff or bluff on which the house was built had been undermined by erosion and houses all along this edge were falling into the freshwater lake.
