He does have high expectations.
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me” Matthew 10:34-39.
Think about that. Do you love Jesus more than your mother? Your father? Your siblings? Your best friends?
Imagine that word to a parent: “the person who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.”
Okay. So what do I do? How do I know if I love Jesus that way?
He says, “If you love me, you will keep my word,” John 14:15. So obey His word. That’s how you know you love Him.
Pray. Ask Him to show you where to obey better. Ask Him to correct your thoughts. Ask Him to help you love His word. Ask Him to help you want to learn it and obey it.
He loves you. Love Him back.
