Self-discipline always pays off. It comes with its own rewards, whether dieting, sports, studying, or spiritual disciplines. Think about that as you begin a new year, a new semester in school, or simply a new week.
If you are a student–or NOT a student–the discipline of reading and studying and turning off the TV and phone will pay off. (Yes, you can silence the phone. You will survive.)
“All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful. Yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruits of righteousness.” Hebrews 12:11.
I memorized the wording above long ago. But I also like the NIV translation:
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
If you let discipline and hard work train you, you will experience great success!
