Have you ever been moved by time? It is staggering. NASA says the star Earendel is 28 billion light years from earth, meaning the light has traveled 28 billion years to reach us. But God has been seated on His throne LONGER than that. He is the Almighty. Nothing in our world surprises Him. No problem in your life is too hard for Him. We debate: is time linear, a straight line from Creation to Final Judgment, or cyclical, an endless repetition of circles like winter, spring, summer, and fall? I say both: a straight line made of circles, like the telephone cords we had in our kitchens in the 1980s.
The point is, time is HUGE, beyond our comprehension. But God is beyond time. He never changes. “Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever” Hebrews 13:8.
Slowly read the words of the hymn “O God, Our Help in Ages Past,” a paraphrase of Psalm 90 by Isaac Watts:
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home;
Under the shadow of thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is thine arm alone,
And our defense is sure.
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
A thousand ages in thy sight
Are like an evening gone,
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be thou our guard while troubles last,
And our eternal home.
GO INTO THE YEAR WITH COURAGE!
Remember: “there is nothing NEW under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). God has foreseen it all, and He is KING. He will take care of you!
FACE THE NEW YEAR WITH CONFIDENCE IN THE GOD WHO IS SOVEREIGN EVEN OVER TIME ITSELF.
