The Old Testament predicts the New. God promised Abram his people would return from Egypt to the Promised Land after 400 years, “because the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure” Genesis 15:16.
The pagans were not evil enough to warrant destruction—but would be in time. It will be the same in the Great Tribulation: after God removes the Church and the Holy Spirit, things will snowball downhill and in only seven years the world will be filled with raving blasphemers crying out for a war with God. And they will get it.
Do you picture Jesus soft—a gentle man too sensitive to face hard things? Think again. Jesus, meek and mild, the Man of Sorrows, “a bruised reed He will not break,” will return as the roaring Lion of Judah.
“I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and He makes war in righteousness. His eyes were a fiery flame. He wore a robe stained with blood…. A sharp sword came from His mouth, so that He might strike the nations. He will trample the winepress of the fierce wrath of God. And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS….
“Then I saw the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider…. But they were killed with the sword that came from His mouth….
“Then I saw a Great White Throne and One seated on it. EARTH AND HEAVEN FLED FROM HIS PRESENCE…. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books” Revelation 19:11-20:12.
As a young lawyer, I often stood before intimidating judges. But can you imagine standing before a judge so terrifying the EARTH ITSELF flees from His presence?
Jesus is the smiling, loving man who hugged children and wipes tears from our eyes. He is also the Powerful Judge and Lord of the universe. Be sure you worship Him as both.
