Esther 2:21-23 includes an interesting story. When Esther’s uncle Mordecai hears of a plot to assassinate the king, he reports it, saves the king’s life, and later that act leads to the salvation of the entire Jewish race.
The point is, sometimes you gotta speak up. Sometimes the “tattler” is the hero. Sometimes the schoolyard loyalty that young people prize so highly is completely wrong—sometimes you have to report dangers and risks and crazy things your peers do or say.
There is no Biblical support for the no-tattling rule.
Sometimes it’s a serious matter and you need to speak up, even if it means an alleged “betrayal” of your best friend or cousin or sibling. Sometimes speaking up will save them even from their own bad decisions.
