When Did You Last Sing to God? Zephaniah 3:17.

The Lord your God delights in you. He will shout joyfully for you. He will sing over you. He will comfort you with gentle singing. He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy. Zephaniah 3:17.

YOUR GOD IS TOO SMALL. Nahum 1:5-7.

The mountains quake before Him and the hills melt. The earth trembles at His presence… Who can withstand His indignation? Who can endure His burning anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, even rocks are shattered before Him. The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; He cares for those who take refuge in Him” Nahum 1:5-7.

Word of the day: Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; He cares for those who take refuge in Him. Nahum 1:7.

Talk to God about His word. Thank Him that He is what it says He is, that He’ll do what it says He’ll do.

JUSTICE. Nahum 1:3.

Christians love to speak of God’s grace and His mercy. Amen.  God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness are truly amazing.

But God is also a God of great justice. The Bible says “He doeth all things well” (Matthew 7:37) and one of the things God does well is justice.  He is patient, but don’t think God does not see.  He sees and He will bring JUSTICE.

“The Lord is slow to anger, but great in power. The Lord will never leave the guilty unpunished” Nahum 1:3.

“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather, leave room for the wrath of God. For it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay” Romans 12:19.

GOD’S GREATEST MIRACLE. 2 Chronicles 33:10-13.

So God brought against them the Assyrian army. They captured Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze shackles, and took him to Babylon. When he was in distress, he sought the favor of Yahweh his God and EARNESTLY HUMBLED HIMSELF before the God of his ancestors. He prayed to Him, and He granted his request… so Manasseh came to know that Yahweh is God” 2 Chronicles 33:10-13.

Baby Steps: FOLLOW HIM IN THE MOMENTS, NOT JUST THE MILESTONES. Colossians 2:6.

Johnny Derouen writes, “Being a bond servant of Jesus is not a once-and-for-all thing! We make choices to obey and honor Him dozens of times a day.”

Just as you have trusted Christ to save you, trust Him, too, for each day’s problems; live in vital union with Him.” Colossians 2:6.

Pork, Port, and Potions: What’s So Tempting About Idolatry? Psalm 135:15-18.

“The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by the hands of men. They have mouths, but cannot speak. They have eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. Those who make them will become like them” Psalm 135:15-18.

Idolatry thus became the largest temptation God’s people faced. And because human nature never changes, we must assume people today are equally tempted. We do not call our idols gods, but many features of idol worship remain.

If you worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, you must accept that He is in charge, not you. He might answer your prayers with a yes. Or He might say no. You can’t spend one moment in the presence of the One True God and tell yourself you are the one in charge. True worship of the true God means recognizing that He is the Boss. He will do His will, and I must submit myself to Him.

Idol worship promises instant gratification. True worship promises nothing: your desire may be gratified soon, or many years from now, or never. Those who cannot accept that, turn to idols.

But following God requires us to kneel before King Jesus. He is the boss. He is our Authority. We must trust Him. And that is made easier because He is GOOD. He LOVES you! He made you, He knows you, and He has a plan for your life! Bow before Him, ask Him for the things you desire, and TRUST HIM with the results.

He loves you. He died for you. You can trust Him.

WHAT IS GOD LOOKING FOR? Isaiah 66:2.

I once overheard a conversation between women. One wanted a man who was tall. The other wanted one with a deep voice. They talked about traits: is he a family man? Can we laugh together? Is he patient? Honest? Kind? Strong? A good listener? A nice dresser?

But what does God look for? In Isaiah, God names three traits He seeks:

I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at My word.” Isaiah 66:2

How do you train yourself to tremble at God’s word? By READING IT.

Your Good Deeds are Not Good Enough. Isaiah 64:6.

My grandfather lived in the woods of East Louisiana. There was no cathedral and no church. But the priest would ride up on his horse every third Sunday and hold mass in the school house. I used to share that story with Catholics so I could talk to them about faith. I would say, “Well, if you go back far enough, ALL OF US are Catholics. ALL the Protestants came out of Catholicism.”  Then I would talk to them about faith and works.

Not only Catholics, but MOST Christian denominations—most Protestants—and ALL OTHER RELIGIONS, believe that your good deeds get you into Heaven (or your good deeds ensure you are reincarnated as a king instead of a cockroach). The whole world, every religion, every cult, over 99 percent of the people on the planet—think GOOD WORKS are the ticket to the afterlife.

But the Bible says your good works are the filthy rags of a leper, Isaiah 64:6. That is, your best, highest achievement is still unclean. Your good works cannot make up for the bad ones.

For you are saved by GRACE. It is not from yourself. It is God’s gift. It is not from works” Ephesians 2:8-9.

Thinking your good works will save you is PRIDE. If you could atone for your own sin, why did Jesus have to die?

CERAMICS. Romans 9:20-21.

God is a “creative,” if you will pardon the annoying buzzword.

God keeps good accounts. He understands math and science. But creativity is the heart of who God is.

God sent Jeremiah to the potter, to watch the man use his potter’s wheel. Jeremiah saw that the piece the man was making was damaged, “so the potter formed it into another kind of pot, as seemed best to him. Then the Lord said, ‘Can I not do so with you, Israel?” Jeremiah 18:1-6.

God is creative, the ABSOLUTE MASTER ARTIST. Do you trust Him?  Do you trust that He knew what He was doing when He made you?  HE REALLY DID!

Who are you, o man, to answer back to God? … Does not the potter have a right over the clay to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?” Romans 9:20-21.
