Change is Hard: Get Organized and Keep the Faith! Numbers 13.

My wife and I are experiencing the most unexpected coincidence. This year both our places of employment have been acquired by larger institutions. We are each reading a raft of emails about all the changes. The meetings are constant. Our workplaces are moving. I am moving out of my office this week; she will moveContinue reading “Change is Hard: Get Organized and Keep the Faith! Numbers 13.”

God’s Calling Includes the Promise of God’s Provision. 1 Kings 17:3-4.

When God calls you, He will equip you. When God gives you a task, he will provide what you need to accomplish that task. When God called me to law school, he gave me a promise I could cling to. I needed the reassurance so often, I prayed these words nearly every day: “Faithful isContinue reading “God’s Calling Includes the Promise of God’s Provision. 1 Kings 17:3-4.”

FOLLOWING GOD. 1 Thessalonians 5:24.

God called me to law school. I could not ignore that powerful voice: I knew it was Him and I felt His reassurance every day. I was excited but I knew it would be tough. A year later I was well into my first semester and challenges came fast and hot. A year after that,Continue reading “FOLLOWING GOD. 1 Thessalonians 5:24.”

“MY HOUR HAS NOT YET COME”–Courage Comes from Hearing God’s Voice. 1 Thessalonians 5:24.

They were casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. ‘Follow Me,’ He told them, ‘and I will make you fishers of men!’ Immediately they left their nets and followedContinue reading ““I Will Make You Fishers of Men.” Matthew 4:18-20.”

It is the Lord Christ Whom You Serve.

Did God call you to achieve your current goals? Or did you choose those goals without consulting Him?  It is no joy to work for a difficult boss—EVEN WHEN THAT BOSS IS YOURSELF.  But when God calls you, you will never doubt that you do not work for others, or for yourself, but for God. Continue reading “It is the Lord Christ Whom You Serve.”

Scotty.

Scotty is NBA-tall.  At six-foot, nine inches, he is taller than the average pro (6’7”).  Scotty is handsome too, with wavy black hair and dimples.  I played basketball with Scotty a few times.  My novice skills were useless against him, yet Scotty dogged himself constantly. I’ll never forget the way he practiced three-pointers, yelling “OFF!”Continue reading “Scotty.”
